Every desk worker should have access to an adjustable and ergonomic chair — including professional photographers who may often be out and about on photoshoots, but also need desk time while processing their images.
We recently collaborated with the talented London-based photographer Octavian Lupu, who put an Ergohuman Elite G2 to the test. With advanced lumbar support, 5D adjustable armrests, free-float recline and a fold-out legrest, he found comfort at any angle for any task.
Being in a creative job, such as photography, involves a lot of time on your feet, on photoshoots, wandering around, looking for your next location, and experimenting with equipment. Outside of taking photos, much time is spent sitting at a desk, editing, emailing clients, and on phone calls.

Back pain is a risk of sitting at a desk for prolonged periods of time, even if it’s just for an hour or two per day. Remote workers, including photographers, are most prone to back, neck, and shoulder pain. A survey carried out in 2024 by market research company, Censuswide, of over 2000 people found that more than 20 per cent of remote workers suffer from pain daily.
It’s not the desk or the act of sitting down that’s the enemy; it’s how people use their equipment and break up their day. The two main issues with prolonged desk work are that people don’t take breaks often enough and that they aren’t using ergonomic office chairs, or they have one but don’t use it properly.
When designing Ergohuman chairs, especially the remastered Elite Generation 2 range, we crafted for comfort, no matter your job. One priority was ensuring the chair was suitable for people in creative jobs, such as photography.
Like photographer Octavian Lupu, our creative customers enjoy the chair’s aesthetic, reclining backrest, healthy posture support, and ease of use. Users can put the chair into free-float mode and lean back effortlessly when the task requires it. The optional legrest adds more comfort, especially when reclined.
Let’s look at the other features of the Ergohuman office chairs, including the Enjoy Elite and Mirus Elite, and how they are helpful for photographers and other creatives.
All our ergonomic office chairs feature an advanced lumbar support system with bespoke comfort depending on the user’s height, weight, and preferences. Though this might feel intense initially, after a week or so, it should feel familiar and significantly more comfortable than other chairs you’ve tried.
The lumbar support system is also adjustable, so you can customise it to suit your needs and posture. Photographers will appreciate its flexibility, which ensures proper support even if you move around to reach for something, lean back, or turn to snap a quick photo.
Ergohuman office chairs feature free-float recline mode, so you can lean back to around 50 degrees. The recline tension is adjustable so that it’s not too difficult or too easy to lean back, depending on your strength and weight. The lumbar support system will continue supporting you as you recline so your posture isn’t compromised. There are four lockable recline positions if you want to keep the backrest in one spot.
Our office chairs are designed for heavy use. Each Elite G2 chair is certified for 24-hour use and warranted for 10 years, so you can use it every hour under the sun without worrying about anything going wrong. If you require a repair or replacement in the decade ahead, don’t hesitate to contact us.
Our office chairs are upholstered in a unique, sustainable mesh that adapts to the user’s body type and movements. With ten autoflex zones, you’ll experience perfect weight distribution and exceptional back support. The mesh is non-slip and non-abrasive, providing a soft and secure seating solution. On warm days, you’ll be grateful for the breathable mesh, which keeps you nice and cool. Available in six different colours, there’s something in our range for every style.
Photographers perform many different tasks throughout the working day. Our 5D adjustable armrests provide forearm, wrist, and shoulder support for every task at any angle. Users can adjust the height, width, depth, angle, and tilt to suit their work and preferences.
A headrest and legrest can provide an extra layer of support, especially when reclining, offering full-body comfort. When taking a break from the screen or leaning back to call a client, the headrest and legrest make the seating experience even more comfortable.
Being a photographer is an intense job that can involve a lot of strain on the body – it often requires a lot of physical activity, from adopting awkward postures to getting the best photograph and carrying heavy equipment. Photographers can do a few things to ease the strain: use a proper camera strap that evenly distributes weight; practice good posture; wear supportive shoes; use a tripod; hold the camera with both hands; take breaks; use a holster system.
When editing or working at a desk, here’s a complete guide of measures a photographer or creative person can take to avoid back, neck, and shoulder pain:
> Ergonomic chairs
A quality ergonomic chair with adjustable features offers personalised comfort.
> Correct set-up
Set your ergonomic chair up correctly to suit your anthropometric measurements.
> Take frequent breaks
Take a break from your desk every 30 or 40 minutes. Walk around, get a glass of water, or stretch for a minute.
> Adjust your monitor
To avoid neck strain, keep your monitor at eye level or about arm’s length away from you.
> Keep your feet flat
When working at your desk, keep your feet flat on the ground and your knees at a 90-degree angle to ensure healthy posture.
> Mouse and keyboard
Use an ergonomic mouse or pen tablet and a separate keyboard (don't hunch over a laptop).
> Standing desk
Consider a standing desk to break up long periods of sitting.
Having the best camera equipment prepares you for a huge aspect of your photography career, but an ergonomic desk set-up keeps you comfortable and productive for the hours you spend sitting. Our office chairs are designed with creative people in mind, packed with features that make your daily work easier and more comfortable. From the advanced lumbar system to the 5D adjustable armrests, we’re here to keep you supported, happy, and healthy while you focus on what you love the most.
